Snowflakes from Hawaii?

Remember those snowflakes you cut out in elementary school... and all those folded pieces of paper.

Well, this quilt goes something like that. The bright turquoise blue fabric is cut from one piece of fabric - no easy feat.  Then it is machine appliqued onto the rich, cranberry red fabric and machine quilted.

These two pieces of fabric are truly one of a kind. I bought them years ago from the Houston International Quilt Festival... they are hand dyed, organic cottons.  They sat on my fabric shelf for at least three years until the inspiration finally struck.  Here it is. I'm pretty happy with it.
